Connecting from home...

Updated June 23rd 2010

We're currently working on an issue for users connecting from Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers. You can connect, but may find that you don't get the usual web folders view of your My Documents folder. You'll be able to download files, but not copy them back to the school network.

You can connect to our school network from home using your username via "RM Easylink".  You don't need any special software on your home PC. Internet Explorer works in most cases. You can also use NetDrive instead to access your documents.

Easylink allows you to access your My Documents folder, the shared Learning Resources and our Intranet.

Known issues and fixes
If you have any problems connecting, email questions to Mr Price... easylink@countyupper.suffolk.sch.uk

Known issue...
Browser : Internet Explorer 7
Operating system : Windows XP or earlier
Version of Microsoft Office : 2000 or earlier, or none

Symptoms
When you try to access the school network, it may display your home computer drives rather than your network space.

Cause
Easylink uses Microsoft Web Folders components. These are only present in Internet Explorer 6 or earlier, or in Microsoft Office XP or later. The issue is discussed here.

Solution
If you have an early version of MS Office installed, you can install Microsoft's Software Update for Web Folders - Also read RM's support article about this here

Known issue...
When you follow the link to RM Easylink you get an error warning about a security certificate, please ignore this, but if you follow the instructions here to download and install our security certificate, it'll reduce the number of warning messages being displayed.

Working with your files
Once you're connected and can see the files you want to work with, copy them to your home computer and work on them. Don't try to double click and open them direct from our school network. Right click on the file (or folder) you want, then copy or "save file as" to a location on your home computer. Work on the file and then save it back to school.
